4.1.2. GroundingGuidelines
ThegroundterminalofeachDriveshouldbeindividuallyconnectedDIRECTLYtothesitegroundbusbar(throughthefilterifinstalled).Drive
groundconnectionsshouldnotloopfromonedrivetoanother,orto,orfromanyotherequipment.Groundloopimpedancemustconfirmto
localindustrialsafetyregulations.TomeetULregulations,ULapprovedringcrimpterminalsshouldbeusedforallgroundwiringconnections.
ThedriveSafetyGroundmustbeconnectedtosystemground.Groundimpedancemustconformtotherequirementsofnationalandlocal
industrialsafetyregulationsand/orelectricalcodes.Theintegrityofallgroundconnectionsshouldbecheckedperiodically.
4.1.3. ProtectiveEarthConductor
TheCrosssectionalareaofthePEConductormustbeatleastequaltothatoftheincomingsupplyconductor.
4.1.4. SafetyGround
Thisisthesafetygroundforthedrivethatisrequiredbycode.Oneofthesepointsmustbeconnectedtoadjacentbuildingsteel(girder,joist),a
floorgroundrod,orbusbar.Groundingpointsmustcomplywithnationalandlocalindustrialsafetyregulationsand/orelectricalcodes.
4.1.5. MotorGround
Themotorgroundmustbeconnectedtooneofthegroundterminalsonthedrive.
4.1.6. GroundFaultMonitoring
Aswithallinverters,aleakagecurrenttoearthcanexist.TheDriveisdesignedtoproducetheminimumpossibleleakagecurrentwhilst
complyingwithworldwidestandards.Thelevelofcurrentisaffectedbymotorcablelengthandtype,theeffectiveswitchingfrequency,the
earthconnectionsusedandthetypeof
RFIfilterinstalled.IfanELCB(EarthLeakageCircuitBreaker)istobeused,thefollowingconditionsapply:

• ThedevicemustbesuitableforprotectingequipmentwithaDCcomponentintheleakagecurrent
• IndividualELCBsshouldbeusedfor
eachDrive
4.1.7. ShieldTermination(CableScreen)
Thesafetygroundterminalprovidesagroundingpointforthemotorcableshield.Themotorcableshieldconnectedtothisterminal(driveend)
shouldalsobeconnectedtothemotorframe(motorend).UseashieldterminatingorEMIclamptoconnecttheshieldtothesafetyground
terminal.
4.2. WiringPrecautions
ConnecttheDriveaccordingtosection4.3,ensuringthatmotorterminalboxconnectionsarecorrect.Therearetwoconnectionsingeneral:Star
andDelta.Itisessentialtoensurethatthemotorisconnectedinaccordancewiththevoltageatwhichitwillbeop erated.Formoreinformation,
refertosection
4.6MotorTerminalBoxConnections.
Itisrecommendedthatthepowercablingshouldbe4‐corePVC‐insulatedscreenedcable,laidinaccordancewithlocalindustrialregulationsand
codesofpractice.
4.3. IncomingPowerConnection
• For1phasesupply,powershouldbeconnectedtoL1/L,L2/N.
• For3phasesupplies,powershouldbeconnectedtoL1,L2,andL3.Phasesequenceisnotimportant.
• ForcompliancewithCEandCTickEMCrequirements,asymmetricalshieldedcableisrecommended.
• Afixedinstallation
isrequiredaccordingtoIEC61800‐5‐1withasuitabledisconnectingdeviceinstalledbetweentheDriveandtheAC
PowerSource.Thedisconnectingdevicemustconformtothelocalsafetycode/regulations(e.g.withinEurope,EN60204‐1,Safetyof
machinery).
• Thecablesshouldbedimensionsaccordingtoany
localcodesorregulations.Guidelinedimensionsaregiveninsection10.2.
• Suitablefusestoprovidewiringprotectionoftheinputpowercableshouldbeinstalledintheincomingsupplyline,accordingtothe
datainsection10.2.Thefusesmustcomplywithanylocalcodesorregulationsinplace.In
general,typegG(IEC60269)orULtypeT
fusesaresuitable;howeverinsomecasestypeaRfusesmayberequired.Theoperatingtimeofthefusesmustbebelow0.5seconds.
• Whereallowedbylocalregulations,suitablydimensionedtypeBMCBcircuitbreakersofequivalentratingmay
beutilisedinplaceof
fuses,providingthattheclearingcapacityissufficientfortheinstallation.
• Whenthepowersupplyisremovedfromthedrive,aminimumof30secondsshouldbeallowedbeforere‐applyingthepower.A
minimumof5minutesshouldbeallowedbeforeremovingtheterminal
coversorconnection.
• ThemaximumpermissibleshortcircuitcurrentattheDrivePowerterminalsasdefinedinIEC60439‐1is100kA.
• AnoptionalInputChokeisrecommendedtobeinstalledinthesupplylinefordriveswhereanyofthefollowingconditionsoccur:‐
o Theincomingsupplyimpedance
isloworthefaultlevel/shortcircuitcurrentishigh
o Thesupplyispronetodipsorbrownouts
o Animbalanceexistsonthesupply(3phasedrives)
o Thepowersupplytothedriveisviaabusbarandbrushgearsystem(typicallyoverheadCranes).
