Additional Installation Tips

Note:

The grounding wiresshould beshort andthe conductorshould havea large area.

A long, thin grounding wirehas a very high impedance(resistance) at high frequencies

and will not guide disturbancesto the ground.

Multi-wireconductors arebetter thansinglewireconductorswiththesamearea.

A braided conductor wire with the same area iseven better. Thebestis a short, thick

grounding braid.

In some industri al units for Ethernet, the RJ45 contact’s shield is connected to the

chassis via a capacitor, s ee 1 in drawing above.

The operator panel’s Ethernet shield is directly connected to the chassis, see 2 in

drawing above.

Check whether the other Ethernet unit has its shi eld directly grounded or

grounded via a capacitor.

Note:

In many cases,connecting the shieldedEthernet cablingto the chassisat bothends is

inappropriate. Humor groundingloops canoccur. Unshielded cabling may even result

in fewer communicationerrors.
